Outback group seeks 70m roads fix
‘Not all Australians can take in’
AAP leader Warren Truss said he was grateful for the “great work” being done to repair roads after the storm.
He said more우리카지노 rain would be expected in the next 24 hours, but said he did not think it would reduce capacity on many roadways in Queensland and Tasmania because “not all Australians can take in all that rain”.
“So many roads need repairs – they need to be repaired all across Queensland,” Mr Truss said.
“A total of 28 people have lost their lives, four have been severely hurt, one had two front teeth broken and 10 people who were left with serious burns are now in hospital.
“That doesn’t happen in the north-east of Australia.
“So you’ve got a lot of people that just want to get back on their roads – they get that through the emergency services, they get that through our police who don’t expect all this damage from the storm, and that’s what we’re looking at in terms of a very rapid response from the emergency services to help people through to where they want to be, so we’re grateful.”
Opposition Leader Bill Shorten said it had been a terrible first fortnight of storms, but he was confident the Coalition had been strong in the last two weeks of the Government.
“The last three months have been pretty brutal,” Mr Shorten said.
“It’s been very tough for Queensland. I can just tell you, that the worst has been over in the north-east.
“The worst has been down the west of the state – and we’re just on the backfoot, you know what I mean.”
“There will be a lot more rain and quite a lot more people affected – there’s been over 800,000 more calls to emergency services. But, if you look at the statistics that we’ve received – all the things that we’ve spent money on, it hasn’t made a dent.”
Mr Shorten said more resources had been devoted to Queensland’s flood defence system and emergency services across the state.
He said the Queensland Government was in the “final stages” of funding a $24 million flood defence grant for towns and cities in a bid to reduce se영천출장샵a level rise.
But Mr Truss was adamant the Government would continue to boost investments.
