These projects were undertaken under the Lachlan River Project, an $80 million scheme that allowed the state Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Water to use private groundwater and rain water to improve irrigation water supplies in the river delta.
The irrigation project was first developed in 2007, by the company AECOM, to supply irrigation water to the region of Hougangir in the Lake Region.
The government hoped to tap into water supplies that were depleted by the ongoing drought that followed 2000 storms that swept the country.
When the state’s drought situation worsened from 2009 unt해운대안마전주 출장 안마il last summer, the irrigation project was put on hold.
This means there is no way of knowing whether the scheme was successful or not, as the State Government is still struggling with water supply and storage issues, Ms Goulburn said.
To avoid the waste of water, the irrigators have decided to pump back fresh water and concentrate rain into one tank which will then return to the aquifer, providing for another nine months of irrigation water.
“This is the same approach we took in 2001 for irrigating the area of the Lachlan Valley as part of the Lachlan River Project and I would say this approach will provide for a maximum return on investment over the nine months.”
