Temperatures at 7-10 degrees are expected by the time light rain ends later today.
The National Weather Service is warning of heavy winds and isolated or severe thunderstorms in northwest North Carolina.
The severe thunderstorm watch for the state will remain in effect until 2:00 a.m. CDT Sunday because of a possible break in the front-surface ridge.
The storm is expected to dissipate to a mild shower later today.
